Watering Conservation 2026

The Colorado River system an essential water source for millions across the western United States continues to experience historically low snowpack, reduced reservoir levels, and long-term drought impacts. Recent reports show reservoirs across the basin are significantly depleted and more than two-thirds empty in some areas, placing stress on regional water supplies and increasing the need for strict conservation efforts. Due to ongoing drought conditions and declining water supplies in the Colorado River Basin, Battlement Mesa Metropolitan District is moving towards water conservation measures.

These conditions have made it necessary for local communities, including Battlement Mesa, to reduce outdoor water use and follow structured watering schedules.

Watering Conservation

  • Water only on assigned odd or even days based on the last number in your address.
    • Odd number addresses may be watered only on odd number days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
    • Even number addresses may be watered only on even number days (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday)
  • No watering on Sundays
  • No watering between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM (to reduce evaporation loss)
  • Watering is limited to a maximum of 2 hours per irrigation cycle
    • Any outdoor water activities ex... slip n’ slides and pools are to be done during that 2-hr. time frame
  • Leaks must be repaired ASAP as these leaks on average produce 1.25 gallons a minute
    • Toilet Flappers
    • Dripping Faucets
    • Leaking Valves.
    • Irrigation Leaks
    • Main Line (meter to the home)

The following conditions will also be applied to BMSA areas where BMMD water is used.

The Grand Valley Recreation Center and the Battlement Mesa Golf Course are not on potable water from the Metro District.

Let’s all do our part to help the Colorado River through this drought season and thank you for your efforts.
